Sticking Around Ver. 1
Little Round Cake burned with resentment,
press it down.
You meant to send somebody to reach me.
People sit for hours and they’re losing their hair.
Finally, I shall have a little bit.
Sticking Around Ver. 2
Waiting a whole week–
The arrow cannot make him flee: slingstones are turned with him.
Where is everyone going?
For instance, have you ever noticed this lava formation?
Its four exciting new colors are
infusing body,
a fighting chance.
These came from a writing group exercise where we utilized the cut-up technique to make poetry. Phrases and lines from other poems, books, and comics were cut up by participants and mixed into a pile. I grabbed a few for each poem and created these. I will definitely look to this practice again in the future, especially for fiction, as it allowed me to inhabit an alternative headspace different from my own thoughts and feelings and experiences.
