Suddenly it’s summer, and the evidence of you
is slowly being erased by fading sunlight.
A cedar-dock, lakeside, covered by swaying trees.
Wet footprints, left behind, at the point of takeoff.
One thousand precious pockets of life
rush to the surface, towards the light.
Your pale chest, full of laughter
exhales as ripples search for refuge
amongst lilypads and lotus flowers
hovering gently on the precipice.
Mediums between worlds–
sharing underwater secrets with the sky.
Suddenly it’s night, & your skin presses into mine.
Legs splayed clumsily on my lap,
cedar crackling in the fire–percussive pops
join the cries of red-eyed loons
mourning the passage of time
